Una Biblia m s? Como dec a Luis Alonso Sch kel en la primera edici n de la Biblia del Peregrino, hay que alegrarse de que esta nueva edici n no viene a llenar un vac o. Gracias al trabajo constante que se viene realizando tanto en el mundo cat lico como en las dem's confesiones cristianas, la Palabra escrita de Dios est continuamente siendo actualizada, tanto en traducciones cada vez m's fidedignas al hebreo y griego originales como en la elaboraci n de comentarios que conecten el texto con las necesidades y aspiraciones concretas del hombre y de la mujer de hoy, sean creyentes o no creyentes.

Con el mismo deseo de seguir en ese camino de mejora continua de la traducci n y de acercarnos a la situaci n concreta de los destinatarios, presentamos al lector latinoamericano esta nueva edici n de la Biblia del Peregrino, ahora titulada: La Biblia de Nuestro Pueblo--Biblia del Peregrino Am rica Latina.

Y hemos dado un paso m's. Al mismo tiempo que la traducci n de los textos originales se ha acomodado al espa ol latinoamericano, adoptando sus giros y modismos m's peculiares, se ha prestado una particular atenci n al texto mismo, teniendo en cuenta los ltimos avances en los estudios b blicos exeg ticos, afinando la traducci n all donde se ha visto necesario. Esta labor ha sido llevada a cabo por un equipo internacional de estudiosos de la Biblia.

La Biblia de Nuestro Pueblo contiene, adem's, otro elemento de novedad: son los comentarios que se a aden al texto. A diferencia de otros comentarios, dirigidos a un p blico especializado o que se detienen solamente en pasajes importantes del texto b blico, nuestros comentarios se han hecho pensando en la mayor a de los creyentes y con la intenci n concreta de acercar a la comprensi n del lector el sentido de cada libro en su totalidad, el contexto en que fueron escritos, el hilo narrativo y el mensaje que el autor quiere transmitir. Los comentarios son largos o cortos seg n lo requiera la dificultad de comprensi n de la Palabra de Dios, que aunque viva y actual, fue escrita hace dos mil a os.

Con todo, citando las mismas palabras de Alonso Sch kel, el momento mejor del comentario es cuado el lector lo deja en la parte inferior de la p gina para entenderse a solas con el texto. Es la hora de la verdad y de la vida.

One more Bible? As Luis Alonso Schokel said in the first of edition of the Biblia del Peregrino, we should be happy that this new edition is not filling up a gap. Thanks to the constant work that has been realized in the Catholic world as well as other Christian denominations, the written Word of God is continually being actualized, in the faithful translations of the original Hebrew and Greek as well as in the commentaries that connect the text to the needs and concrete hopes of the people of today, be they believers or non-believers.

With the same wish to continue in this path of making a continual translation that is better and to approach the concrete situations of the intended readers, we present this new Latin-American edition of La Biblia del Peregrino now titled: La Biblia de Nuestro Pueblo 'Biblia del Peregrino Amarica Latina.

And we have taken an additional step. At the same that the translation from the original texts are made, the Latin-American Spanish has been used, adopting its manners and peculiar expressions, attention has been paid to the text itself, keeping in mind the latest advances in biblical studies exegesis, fine-tuning the translation where it seemed necessary. This work has been accomplished with an international group of Bible scholars.

La Biblia de Nuestro Pueblo also contains another new element: the commentaries added along with the text. Compared to other commentaries directed to a specialized public or that examines only important passages of the biblical text, our commentaries have been made keeping in mind the majority of believers and the concrete desire to allow the reader to grasp the sense of each book in its totality, the context in which they were written, the narrative thread and the message that the author intended to convey. The commentaries are short or long depending on the difficulty of comprehension of the Word of God, which although is alive and actual, was written two thousand years ago.

All in all, citing the words of Alonso Schokel, the best moment of the commentary is when the reader abandons it in the inferior part of the page to engage alone the actual text. It is the time of truth and life.
